Article Directories or Your Own Blog – What Lists Better?
Hi Guys
This post has come from a discussion on the Warrior Forum where a few people believe that it is better to post your articles to your own site rather than to the article directories and be able to achieve better listings in google. A few of the guys over their think that it is entirely possible to achieve the same listings with your own domain that it is with the article directories.
Now this has peaked my interest enough to give it a test and see what the results come up with. I do honestly hope that an article on your own blog can out do the article directories but I am yet to be convinced, hence why I am setting up this test. It would be so much better to be able to post articles on your own blog and get them listed in google just as quick and get the listing and traffic to your own domain. This would be a lot better as you can control everything then on your own. You will be able to monetize your article a lot better as you would not have any leaks in the form of google ads to distract the customer.
So here is what I am going to be doing. I will use a brand new domain name that will have a landing page just like any of my other products I promote. I will then create a subdomain and install a wordpress blog on it. I will then start writing articles for the blog and I will promote those articles just like I have done in the past with the article directories. So I will ping and bookmark the article on my blog and then submit it to other article directories with a link back to the main article on my blog. I will then start to get links from other blogs in my niche and then link them back to the main article in the blog. This is the same thing I was doing with articlesbase but changing that for my own blog.
OK the things I will be looking for in this test is the following –
1. How quickly the blog article can get listed on google. With articlesbase I can get an article listed easily within 30 minutes. Just under 10 minutes is my record. So I would like to see the exact same response from the blog article.
2. The Initial Listing of the blog article – With Articlesbase done correctly I can get an instant page 1 listing after the article is listed. Speed is of the essence here because the higher the listing you start with the immediate inflow of traffic you receive. You want the maximum exposure of the article you can get resulting in the traffic and sales/
3. The amount of time spent on 1 article – This is the deciding factor for me as I do write a lot of stuff and if I have to spend an extra hour a day or half hour a day on 1 article then this will hold me up a great deal.
4. Keyword Use – I will be using the exact same technique as I have with the article directories Keyword once in the title, 3 times in the body and once in the Resource. Also in this section I will be choosing a few different keywords. With my keyword research I will split it into 3 sections. 4 Keywords will be on the low end of the scale like very low competition and up to 1000 searches. You can generally get listings with articlesbase top 5 with these sort of keywords. Then 4 keywords with a bit more competition up to 4000 searches. Then lastly 4 keywords with more competition again round about 75,000 competing pages and anything over 4000 searches. This is the fairest way I can see to test the blog article because I know the listings I can get with articlesbase on these sort of figures and will be able to thouroughly test this out.
Ok I am going to get this started today and see what the initial test results are and I should have some figures or some sort of information to hand tomorrow.
Until then keep watching as I think this could be a very useful experiment for a lot of interested parties. If you have any questions let me know.
Thanks
Pete

Pete: I will be looking forward to your updates on this test. If I may, I would like to ask a question or two…maybe even a bit off topic.
I am about 2 months into my IM career and have been testing a few methods. How do you go about product selection? I am finding it a bit hard to just pick 1 or 2 products and sticking with them.
Also, I know you gave a bit about keyword criteria in your post above, but what is your ‘normal criteria’ when picking keywords to attach.
I am really itching to start making some sales, but patience is of the essence.
Thanks so much for all the info Pete.It is so inspiring to see you touch the target.Pete, may i ask you how you spend your day nowadays?I mean, can you tell us how many hours you work.how you keep things organized etc,.that will be very useful for us.
thanks so much Pete.
I am very sure that this year, you are going to make it huge in IM.Happy New Year.
Hi Jeff
Thanks for your kind words. Things have differed greatly from when I started this journal. A lot of the manual work I now outsource the likes of article writing, blog posting, forum posting etc. I still do some manuall stuff the likes of submitting the articles and bookmarking and backlinking etc. I am currently in the process of hiring people to do this for me full time though so I can spend more time on my product creation and the rest of the stuff. Once I have everything on full automation I think it will be more relaxed than doing everything myself. However there will then be the time spent making sure the people I hire do what I want them to do so things will go in a different direction.
Hopefully this explains the way I see things going in the future.
Thanks
Pete

Sam
Keep it going Pete looking I also will be looking forward to updates on this test keep up the good work.
Hi Tony
Thanks I will continue with this blog as long as I have more information to share with all of you. I have quite a few ideas about what else I can do but I will keep going. I will be fully implementing this test tomorrow and I think I will use one of the products I already mentioned to you all. I will also test it on a brand new domain as well.
Thanks
Pete
Hey Pete do you think you can do a video of this testing? As I am a visual learner.
I can try but I don’t know how helpful this would be as It could be a very long video, but I will try.
Thanks
Pete
Hey pete…great test, cant wait to see the results.
I actually left you a message on another post suggesting something similar before I came across this. This is going to be very interesting indeed as this is the exact dilemma i find myself in…rank articles or my own blogs…
